Early this morning, the Great Neck Alert Fire Company was alerted to a motor vehicle accident with reports of trapped and unresponsive occupants due to an overturned vehicle. Our firefighters quickly responded to the scene but were lucky to discover that both occupants were conscious and were able to make their way out of the vehicle. Our firefighters worked to secure the vehicle and mitigate any hazards while also working with @greatneckvigilant and Hatzolah EMS personnel to assess and treat the patients involved. Kings Point PD was on scene providing assistance as well.

While we were fortunate that it was not required this morning, our firefighters were ready to execute any type of extrication operation that would have been needed. Great Neck Alert firefighters regularly train in multiple extrication techniques so that they are always ready to perform rescues, even when it is a complex operation and they had just been asleep ten minutes prior.

At 15:29 on March 19, 2026 the Great Neck Alert Fire Company was alerted to a reported structure fire at 444 Middle Neck Road. Chief of Department Gallo was first on scene and transmitted a working fire for fire on the third floor of an apartment complex. Great Neck Alert firefighters were on scene within minutes and quickly extinguished the fire, searched adjoining apartments, and ensured that the fire did not spread further throughout the building. Thank you to @greatneckvigilant and @mlfd for providing mutual aid during this fire as well as @nassaucountypd and @nassaufiremarshal for providing support. @overtheedgephoto

The American Legion is a true partner, always standing proudly leading local events such as our Veterans Day Parade. For many years, the Alert Fire Company has continually supported their efforts. They were kind enough to recognize our support at a recent meeting.

🔥 Firefighters Ronnie and Kevin Campbell were recognized for their ongoing commitment and years of dedicated service to our company. Their reliability and devotion truly exemplify what it means to serve.

🏗️ Trustee Michael Lang was honored for his leadership; most recently, for his instrumental role in the construction of our new maintenance garage. Thanks to his facilitation and oversight, this project will help our agency for years to come.

Yesterday afternoon, the Alert Fire Company held our annual Santa event at the Village Green Park! We had families ready to meet Santa, Mrs. Claus, and all of their helpers! We took photos with all of the families and kids, spreading the holiday cheer. This event is special to us, and goes back many years.

In the late 1950’s, a gentleman named Al Wesey in coordination with the Bank of Great Neck started this wonderful tradition. After Al passed away, Ex-Chief Plakstis did not want this event to end as he saw how many people enjoyed it. Starting in 1990, Ex-Chief Plakstis made sure to continue Al’s special event. Although Ex-Chief Plakstis has passed away, his sons (Assistant Chief Tyler Plakstis and Captain Ryan Plakstis) and Ray’s wife Donna have continued this tradition. For Ray, the holiday was an important time and seeing the happiness it brought to so many made it worth it. Continuing this event is a meaningful experience for us. Thank you to all who came out to the event, we hope to see all of you there next year!

At the recent Veterans Day parade in Great Neck, we all came together to honor those who have dedicated so much to our country. Thank you to everyone who participated and attended.

Last night at approximately 3:30am, the Alert Fire Company assisted the @mlfd at the scene of a working residential fire in Great Neck. Alert Firefighters provided support with firefighting operations. We are thankful that through the assistance of working smoke detectors, the residents of the home made it out of the house safely. We send our condolences to the residents for the loss of their pets. Units were returned to service shortly after the fire was placed under control.
